Fix Missing Photo Folders in DataScope on Android

DataScope can’t find your photos? Move them from DCIM to Pictures in Android so they appear in your forms.

On some Android devices (Android 11 or newer), photos saved in DCIM are not always available to all apps, even if you grant “Photos and videos” access. DataScope can access the Pictures folder (and its subfolders) without issue. Moving your photos from DCIM to Pictures ensures they show up in your forms and reports.

Steps to Move Photos

Option A — Using Google Files (Recommended)

  1. Open the Files by Google app. If you don’t have it, install it from the Play Store.

  2. Go to BrowseInternal storage.

  3. Open the DCIM folder.

  4. Long-press the folder you want to move (e.g., Camera).

  5. Tap Move to.

  6. Select Internal storagePictures.

  7. (Optional) Create a subfolder named DataScope to keep your photos organized.

  8. Tap Move here and wait until the process is complete.

Option B — Using Your Phone’s Native File Manager

  • Samsung (My Files):
My Files → Internal storage → DCIM → long-press folder → MovePicturesMove here.

  • Xiaomi/HyperOS (File Manager):
    File Manager → Internal storage → DCIM → long-press folder → MovePicturesPaste/Move here.

After Moving the Photos

  1. Open DataScope and make sure to grant “Allow access to all photos and videos”.

  2. When attaching images in a form, navigate to the Pictures folder (or Pictures/DataScope if you created it).

Important Notes

  • Moving photos will not reduce quality or remove metadata (date, location, etc.).

  • Your camera will still save new photos in DCIM; you’ll need to move them periodically or copy only the ones you want to use in DataScope.

  • This method works because Android gives apps full access to Pictures, while DCIM access may be restricted depending on your device model and permission settings.
