What do the security alerts in the DataScope app mean?

Learn what DataScope's security alerts mean (rooted/jailbroken device, mock location, malicious app) and what to do in each case.

Written by Jessica Franco

DataScope has security controls that can detect certain conditions on the device used to access the app.

If we detect one of these conditions, you may receive a security alert. Below, we explain what each alert means and what you can do to keep using the app.

🔐 Rooted or Jailbroken Device

This alert appears when DataScope detects that the device has superuser (root) or jailbreak permissions.

These modifications allow changes to be made to the operating system that can affect the security of the device and the information stored on it.

What to do?

  • Check whether the device has root or jailbreak access.

  • If this modification was done intentionally, you'll need to restore the device to a state compatible with the app's security measures.

While this condition is present, you won't be able to use DataScope on the device.

❓ Do you think this is a false positive?

If you're sure your device doesn't have root or jailbreak access, you can check it this way before contacting support:

  1. Open the Play Store (Android).

  2. Tap your profile picture, in the top-right corner.

  3. Select Play Protect.

  4. Check whether your device appears as "Certified".

If your device shows as certified and the alert persists, contact our Support team through the platform's chat and include:

  • A screenshot of the security message.

  • A screenshot of the Play Protect screen showing the certification status.

  • Your device's details: go to Settings > About phone and send a screenshot of that information.

With this information, our technical team can investigate your specific case, even if you're not able to or don't want to restore the device to factory settings.

📍 Mock Location Detected

This alert appears when DataScope detects that the device is using a simulated (mock) location.

This can happen when you have an app installed or active that modifies the device's GPS location.

What to do?

  • Temporarily disable any app used to simulate location.

  • Check your device's location settings.

  • Check whether another app might be modifying the location information.

This alert doesn't block use of the app. You can select Continue anyway to keep using DataScope.

⚠️ Potentially Malicious App Detected

This alert appears when DataScope detects an app that could pose a security risk to the device.

What to do?

  • Review recently installed apps.

  • Uninstall any app you don't recognize or that comes from an untrusted source.

  • Run a new security check on the device.

While this condition is present, you won't be able to use DataScope on the device.

Need help?

If the alert keeps appearing after taking the steps above, contact DataScope's Support team through the platform's chat.

When you contact us, we recommend sending a screenshot of the security message so we can help identify the problem.
