Every asset in DataScope has a QR code that you can download, print, and share with your team.
This code has two uses:
Identify an asset from the mobile app: select it when answering a compatible form, without searching for it manually in a list.
View the asset’s public page: anyone with the QR code or the link can access the information you have authorized, without logging in to DataScope.
1. How do I download an asset’s QR code?
Go to Assets in the DataScope Web Platform.
Open the asset you need.
Click Share QR.
Select Download QR.
You can also download it from the Configure access window.
Once downloaded, you can print it and place it on the equipment to make it easier to identify in the field.
2. How do I use the QR code to identify an asset from the app?
You can scan the QR code to select an asset when answering a form.
To do this, the form must have a data list selection question linked to a list that contains assets.
When you scan the code, you can identify and select the matching asset without searching for it manually in the list.
3. How do I enable an asset’s public page?
The public page lets people view an asset’s information without logging in to DataScope. This option is disabled by default and must be enabled individually for each asset.
To enable it:
Open the asset from Assets.
Click Share QR > Configure access.
Turn on Public access.
Under Public content, select the information you want to show.
Under Asset documents, select the documents you want to publish.
Check the preview to see how the page will look on a phone.
Click Confirm.
Important: anyone with the QR code or the link will be able to view the published information. Carefully review which data and documents you authorize before enabling public access.
4. What information is shown on the public page?
The page always shows the following basic asset data:
Photo.
Name.
ID.
Asset type.
Location.
Description.
In addition, under Public content, you can choose whether to show:
Asset details.
Form answers.
Completed tasks.
Latest meter readings.
Schedules.
Closed issues.
The availability of some options may depend on the asset’s configuration or on the features available in your account.
What happens if you publish form answers?
If you enable Form answers, the public page may show the answers and the PDF document for each one.
Keep in mind that some PDFs may include the name of the person who answered the form. Before publishing this information, review the documents and make sure they don’t contain data you don’t want to share publicly.
Can I choose which asset documents to show?
Yes. Under Asset documents, you can select each document you want to publish individually.
The public page organizes information into the Activity, Details, and Meters tabs, and lets you search within each block.
The page does not directly show the people related to the asset, for example, who reported a ticket, who worked on it, or who has access. However, the PDFs of published answers may include the name of the person who answered.
5. How do I disable the public page?
If you no longer want other people to view the asset’s information without logging in:
Open the asset from Assets.
Click Share QR > Configure access.
Turn off Public access.
Click Confirm.
Once public access is disabled, the page will no longer be available to people who scan the code or use the link.
Important: disabling public access does not delete files that other people have already downloaded.
In the Share QR menu, you will also find the Deactivate QR option. This option is different from disabling public access, so choose the action based on what you need to do.
6. When should I use the QR code and the public page?
Some examples:
Field identification: place a QR code on a machine so your team can quickly select it when filling out a form.
Technical information lookup: let authorized staff view the published details and documents of a piece of equipment.
Activity tracking: make it easy to check completed tasks, meter readings, or published schedules for an asset.
External access: share equipment information with people who don’t have a DataScope account.
Security considerations
Before enabling public access, keep in mind:
Anyone with the QR code or the link can view the published information.
Only publish the data and documents you want to share.
Review answer PDFs to check whether they include names or other data that should not be public.
If you disable public access, files previously downloaded by other people will remain in their possession.
